CELEBRATING 20 YEARS IN BUSINESS Students from Valerie Parker's fifth-grade class last year with their journals and postcards Journal Journey Pasteur Elementary's alumni renew project for fifth graders. We are dream makers Vtie are Aussies who customize every aspect of your adventure in the glorious South Pacific. We are determined to exceed your every expectation. Call its today. 2000 TRAVEL ournal Journey, a fifth- grade program at Pasteur Elementary School in Detroit, is continuing again this year, says Marcy Feldman, president of the Pasteur Elementary School Alumni Foundation. Last year, the foundation gave each student a composition book they could use to write about themselves. Foundation members then mailed the books to alumni all over the country who wrote about themselves. "Those alumni then mailed it to other alumni in other cities and so on:' Feldman explained. They shared interesting facts about where they live, the careers they chose and a Pasteur memory. "It's like Career Day:' said Valerie Parker, a fifth-grade teacher. Some journals returned with family pic- tures, news clippings, photos and even recipes for one student who shared in his writing that he liked to cook. Journal Journey quickly became a hit with the children when each week picture postcards were arriving from many places. Alumni Wendy Wagenheim and Fran Gross met with the students each month to do a geography game. "It's not just a writing assignment:' Parker said. "They learn about social studies and geography, too?' Children received postcards from alumni living everywhere from Maine to California. Parker displayed the postcards on the wall for the students to enjoy. There were also postcards from Tahiti, the Dominican Republic, New Zealand, Brazil, Australia, Tel Aviv, Hong Kong and London. The entry from Donna Adler Ron gave information on websites to learn more about Israel and her kibbutz. The Pasteur Elementary School Alumni Foundation began in 1997 after a Mumford High School reunion.
