AJC To Honor
Sediers For
Community Service
A
merican Jewish
Committee-Detroit
Regional Office will pres-
ent its 2011 Community Service
Award to Rozanne and Robert Sedler
on Monday, Dec. 5, 5:30 p.m. at the
Townsend Hotel in Birmingham.
AJC is an
international
think-tank and
human rela-
tions agency
dedicated to
the pursuit of
pluralism and
democracy. Its
Community
Service Award
Robert and Rozanne
is presented
Sedler
to leaders
who have demonstrated a profound
commitment to improving our com-
munity.
The Sedlers, both together and
individually, have shown lifelong
leadership on issues related to com-
munity development, equality, bridge
building, geriatrics and education.
Rozanne Sedler is a long-time
advocate for the rights and needs of
the elderly. She currently serves on
the Board of Citizens for Better Care
and is a past president of the ACLU
of Oakland County. She has been
a clinical social worker at Jewish
Family Service since 1986 in the area
of geriatrics.
Robert Sedler is a distinguished
professor of law at Wayne State
University where he teaches courses in
constitutional law and conflict of laws.
In 2005, he was elected to the WSU
Academy of Scholars, which is the
highest academic honor bestowed on a
WSU faculty member. He has litigated
many civil rights and civil liberties
cases, mostly as a volunteer lawyer for
the ACLU of Michigan. He frequently
speaks to community groups in the
Detroit Metro area on constitutional
and public policy issues. This year
marks his 50th year as a law professor.
Rozanne and Robert have two
grown children, are residents of
Southfield and members of Temple
Emanu-E1 in Oak Park.
The evening will include special
guest speaker Marc Stern, AJC's asso-
ciate general counsel. The evening's
dinner chairs are AJC Detroit board
member Judy Kotzen and head of
Wayne State University's Law School,
Dean Robert M. Ackerman. Tickets
are $175. Sponsorships begin at $250.
