EDNA BERKOWITZ NEWMAN, 89,
of West Bloomfield, died Nov. 6, 2011.
She was born in the Bronx, N.Y.
She was a lover of the arts and spent
many years volunteering at the Detroit
Institute of Arts. She gave lectures on
various styles of artwork to school-
children in the Detroit area and also
acted as a docent (tour guide) at the
museum. Mrs. Newman was involved
in other organizations, including
the League of Women Voters and a
Jewish study group that met weekly
for more than 20 years. She worked
as a secretary for many years and was
formerly the administrative assistant
to the Massachusetts Bar Association
Committee on Continuing Education.
Mrs. Newman is survived by her
daughter and son-in-law, Adele
Newman and Mike Hinckley of
Mountain View, Calif.; son and daugh-
ter-in-law, Martin Newman and Sandra
Mackler of Westfield, Mass.; grandchil-
dren, Max and Charles Newman.
She was the beloved wife for 57
years of the late Seymour Newman.
Interment was held at Beth El
Memorial Park. Contributions may

IRENE RODMAN, 104, of Southfield,
died Nov. 11, 2011. She was a chapter
president and president of the Council of
Metropolitan Detroit of Jewish Women
International (formerly B'nai B'rith).
Mrs. Rodman is survived by her
daughter, Joan Rodman Smoller of
Riverdale, N.Y.; grandchildren, Alex
Malone, Anna Rodman Goulianos and
Joslin Rodman; great-grandchildren,
Noah, Bryce, Nick and Ben; nephews,
Arnold Pearl of Detroit, Louis Pearl of
Dearborn.
She was the beloved wife of the late
Joseph David Rodman; loving mother
of the late Anita Tucker.

West Bloomfield, died Nov. 2, 2011.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn
