H undreds of deli lovers gathered at Temple Israel in late October for a deli spread like no other. The evening began with a delicious strolling dinner featuring stations from some of Metro Detroit's favorite delicatessens: Deli Unique of West Bloomfield, Bloomfield Hills and Novi; Star Deli in Southfield; Steve's Deli in Bloomfield Township; and Zingerman's Delicatessen in Ann Arbor as well as Detroit's United Meat and Deli. Guests enjoyed a plethora of deli favorites from gefilte fish, chopped liver and knishes to corned beef sandwiches and stuffed cabbage. Author of Save the Deli, David Sax, hosted the evening and spoke about the history of Jewish delis in Detroit. The Chasidic rock band was co- founded by brothers Shmuel and Bentzi Marcus. Their music is catchy; their lyr- ics are mostly English with some Hebrew and Yiddish. Their songs are spirited, spiritual, energetic and definitely dance- able. Their new hit is call "Ya'alili." See it at www.my8thday.com .
