ADL Fundraiser To Feature
Popular Actor-Comedian
The Anti-Defamation League will be hold-
ing its annual Fall Fundraiser at 6:30 p.m.
Wednesday, Nov. 16, at Knollwood Country
Club in West Bloomfield. This year, the
entertainment will come from actor and
comedian Kevin Pollak.
Pollak's film credits
include A Few Good
Men, The Wedding
Planner, The Usual
Suspects and Ricochet.
The stand-up star
was recently voted by
Comedy Central as one
Kevin Pollak
of the top 100 comedi-
ans of all time.
Pollak is a longtime friend of the ADL.
Proceeds from this event will help fund
the programs and work of the Detroit ADL
office.
Along with work combating anti-
Semitism, ADL also is a major content
provider to local schools and workplaces
for anti-bullying, cyber-bullying and
hate. Through ADL's No Place For Hate
campaign, the organization is currently
in more than 90 schools in Southeast
and West Michigan, helping students and
teachers work through the difficult issues
of hate and bias that students face today.
An RSVP to the event is required. The
event features a strolling dinner. Tickets
are $200 per person or $136, if you are

Hear How Young Professionals
Are Impacting Detroit
LiveWorkDetroit!, an organization
that showcases Detroit as the place for
Michigan's college graduates and young
professionals to live and work, is host-
ing an event on Friday, Nov. 18, where
ComePlayDetroit founder, Justin Jacobs,
along with other young professionals, will
be a part of a panel discussion on how
they impact Detroit.
The event kicks off at 1 p.m. with a

Treatment And Education
More than 200 people celebrated at the
Shirt Box in Farmington Hills on Sept.
22, donating generously to support men's
health. The event celebrated 30 years of
business for the men's fashion boutique
and raised $8,000 for the Michigan
Institute of Urology (MIU) Run for the
Ribbon, a nonprofit effort to provide
treatment and education about prostate
health screenings.
"We are overwhelmed by the out-
pouring of support from our customers
and friends:' said Ron Elkus, Shirt Box
founder along with co-owner with Rod
Brown. "Our mission has always been a
celebration of men, and our anniversary
was a great opportunity to say thank
you to everyone who has supported us
for 30 years. We wanted to show our

networking lunch at the Masonic Temple
in Detroit, followed by a "Living in the
D Tour" at 3:30 p.m. and then the panel
discussion at 5:30 p.m. The holiday tree
lighting ceremony at Campus Martius at 8
p.m. will end the day.

'Rabbinic Stories' Reveal
Much About Jewish Roots

Beth Ahm in West Bloomfield will lead a
three-week series titled,
"Rabbinic Stories."
These stories of
the Midrash and the
Talmud offer a glimpse
into the ancient Jewish
world and the begin-
nings of Rabbinic
Judaism — its values,
Rabbi Steven
setting and language
Rubenstein
— and what it means
to be Jewish today.
Classes are 8 p.m. Mondays, Nov. 14, 21
and 28. The cost is $25 for the series. Call

Happy Days Writer
To Speak at the JCC
The Jewish Community Center of
Metropolitan Detroit's Institute for
Retired Professionals (IRP) will host
Mark Rothman, speaking on "My Life
and Opinions, In and Out of the Sitcom
Trenches:' on Tuesday, Nov. 29, at the JCC,
6600 W. Maple Road in West Bloomfield.
Rothman is the former head writer and
producer for Happy Days, The Odd Couple
and Laverne & Shirley.
The afternoon will begin with refresh-
ments at noon, followed by the program
at 1 p.m. Guests are invited to bring lunch;
desserts and coffee will be provided.
The cost is $3 for non-IRP members
and free for IRP members. Reservations
are not required.
