Celebrate Beauty

"Caring For Those Who Care"

fundraiser surpasses last year's

proceeds for Brown Centers.

M

ore than 150 guests attended "Caring For Those
Who Care: Celebrate Beauty,' an awareness and
fundraiser for the Dorothy & Peter Brown Jewish
Community Adult Day Care Program, which serves older
adults with memory disorders and their family caregivers.
The Sept. 14 event, the second at Neiman Marcus in Troy, cel-
ebrated these caregivers and Brown Program participants.
At the story, guests viewed enlarged photos showing
Brown Program activities as well as jewelry and note cards
designed by participants. Their colorful paintings were dis-
played throughout the Beauty Department. Art sales added
to the evening's proceeds, while boosting the artists' pride
and self-esteem. Guests enjoyed an array of beauty services,
tasted hors d'oeuvres and desserts, and shopped throughout
the store, with a percentage of sales benefiting the Brown
Program.
Proceeds from this event support participants who need
financial assistance with program fees. Twenty sponsors
made special donations to support special programming
for music, art, yoga and JET theater tickets. Several donors
underwrote program expenses and made very generous gifts,
enabling the event to surpass last year's proceeds.
A sizable contingent of Brown Program family caregiv-
ers attended. "Coming to the Brown Program has been the
best thing for mom since the onset of her memory loss," said
Debra Partrich. "She is now better at handling each day's
challenges. The program has kept her mind active, and she is
more positive interacting with me and family members."
Brown Advisory Committee member Adele Weisler
summed up the evening: "This upbeat event brought together
supporters from all backgrounds and generations. It reflected
the spirit of fun and vitality that participants experience in
the Brown Centers every day." I I
