Don Cohen Contributing Writer ou might think that raising $32.6 million dollars is the hard part. But allocating those ' dollars to meet the needs of the Metro Detroit Jewish community and representing its interests nation- ally, internationally and in Israel isn't so easy either. But that is what the 26-member Planning and Allocations Steering Committee of the Federation of Metropolitan Detroit, with an assist from staff, has done once again this year. Federation released an outline of its 2011-12 alloca- tions at its Oct. 5 annual meeting and just put it, and the narrative portion of its Budget and Allocations report, online last week at www.jewishdetroit.org . Esther Allweiss Ingber Special to the Jewish News wo former Detroiters — Justin Wedes, who grew up in Huntington Woods, and Bonnie Garvin, formerly of Southfield — were arrested recently in separate incidents at Occupy Wall Street (OWS) in New York City. They say the arrests metro will not disrupt their commitment to the cause. Initially ignored by the mainstream media, Occupy Wall Street has become an outlet for the disaffected to speak out against economic and social injustices in this country.
