dismiss the lawsuit, as well as the denial
of the first part of the appeal by the
Michigan Court of Appeals (only three
days after it was filed), stands to confirm
the integrity of the decision.
Howard, Ms. Bolsen and Mr. Sampson
understand the workings of the school
board and how a school district oper-
ates. Howard's fair and balanced
approach to analyzing and responding
to the issues is precisely what is needed
to guide the district through rough
financial times.
As a former Farmington Hills resi-
dent of 20 years and proud parent of
two children who are very successful
products of the fine education the
Farmington schools offer, I know that
our schools and our children could not
be in better hands.

'Thoughtful Leadership'
Has Benefited FPS
I am a career educator who served as
teacher, counselor and administrator
for the Birmingham Public Schools
and a father of three children who have
matriculated through the Farmington
Public Schools.
My children were the beneficiaries of
an educational system in Farmington
that provided both choice and academic
rigor.
It is due to the thoughtful leadership
of our school board, in concert with
teachers, administrators, and support
personnel that ours continues to be a
leading district in our state.
I endorse the candidacy of Howard
Wallach for the Board of Education. We
are fortunate that Howard continues to
want to act in a leadership role for our
schools and our children.

FPS Needs 'Sound,
Independent Judgment'
Voters in the Farmington Public Schools
are so fortunate to have a candidate of
Dr. Murray Kahn's credentials and com-
mitment to educational excellence.
Accomplished in his field, Dr. Kahn
serves as a division head at Henry
Ford Hospital Health Systems. He
would bring his decades-long exper-
tise in administration, management
and understanding of organizational
dynamics to improve our school dis-
trict.
As the parent of three children who
have gone through the FPS system, Dr.
Kahn is keenly aware of the issues that
need to be addressed in order to give
our students the education they deserve
to succeed in an increasingly competi-
tive work force.
Most importantly, Dr. Kahn is his own
man. He will bring sound, independent
judgment to the FPS board.

Shalit Swap
Is Questioned
Could you imagine if the U.S. would
release 1,027 murderers who caused
thousands of deaths and injuries? Who
would welcome and cheer the who's
who of American serial killers like the
BTK Killer, Charles Manson and the
"Unabomber" Ted Kaczynski?
This is what just happened when these
murderers were greeted as heroes by
those in the Gaza and the president of
the Palestinian Authority.
Do you really think giving them a state
will bring peace?

Random Act
Of Kindness
While standing in line to pay for my
cup of coffee at 7-11 this morning, a
very tall, handsome gentleman was
paying for his items. I happened to
notice this young gentleman had a cane
and was somewhat "disabled."
When it was my turn to pay for my
coffee, the cashier refused my money
and advised "that man, Jeff, paid for
your coffee." I was touched to the point
I literally ran after Jeff in the parking lot
to thank him. I not only thanked him for
the coffee but for renewing my faith in
human kindness.
On Oct. 2, I lost three neighbors to a
tragic fire. I visited with one of the sur-
vivors in the hospital burn ward. It was a
difficult visit, to say the least.
When this man bought my coffee this
morning, he told me he used to live in a
small town and that is what people did;
a simple, "random act of kindness." Life
really is short. Won't you buy someone a
cup of coffee today? I know I will.

Correction

• The letter to the editor "Imam Needed
Vetting For 9-11 Event At CSZ" (Oct. 20,
page 6) contained a citation to a Anti-
Defamation League source stating that the
Islamic Organization of North America
maintains its official ties to Pakistan
and remains committed to its goals and
extremist ideology. Due to an editing
error, the JN printed an incorrect date for
the report. The ADL document was actu-
ally dated Oct. 13, 2010, not Oct. 13, 2011.
