DRESSMAKER

"The Dressmaker of Khair Khana gives voice to
many of our world's unsung heroines."
- Angelina Jolie

In 2005, Gayle Lemmon went to Afghanistan to
write an article about women entrepreneurs. When she met Kamila
Sediqi, she knew she had a once-in-a-lifetime story.

Sediqi was living in Kabul when the Taliban seized control of the city.
Her father and brother were forced to flee, leaving Kamila the sole
breadwinner for her five siblings. Armed only with determination,
she picked up a needle and thread and created a thriving business.

Don't miss this incredible true story of an unlikely entrepreneur who
mobilized a community under the Taliban.

$35 for a copy of the book, brunch and program (book only - $20)

Ned Zeman
The Rules of the Tunnel

Ned Zeman is the kind of writer other
writers admire. A contributing editor at Vanity Fair,
Zeman has covered crime, politics and Hollywood
for Newsweek, Spy, GQ, Outside and Sports
Illustrated. When he decided to pen Rules of
the Tunnel, though, Zeman was about to enter
completely new territory: his own experiences
with depression.

He was 32 when it began, and Zeman tried everything: therapy,
medication, hospitalization and even shock therapy. He lost his
girlfriend, his friends, his memory. "What the hell did I do?" he
finally asked himself. The Rules of the Tunnel is the answer.

Raised in Metro Detroit, Ned Zeman also is the co-writer of the
screenplay, "Sugarland," starring Jodie Foster.

How We Age: A Doctor's Journey
Into the Heart of Growing Old

The diagnosis was obvious: the old
man had Alzheimer's disease.

But he didn't. In fact, he had a brain tumor.
The tumor was operable and the man recovered.

Geriatric psychiatrist Marc Agronin says
symptoms commonly associated with old age
are not necessarily what they seem. In fact, a person is most likely
depressed not because he's old but because he has depression. Provide
him with therapy and he may completely recover.

How We Age offers a completely new and profound look at growing
old and how we respond to the concerns of older Americans.

Molly Birnbaum
A Season to Taste: How I Lost My
Sense of Smell and Found My Way

Preparing to become a chef, Molly
Birnbaum spent her nights savoring cookbooks
and her days working at a Boston bistro.
Shortly before starting at the Culinary Institute
of America, she was hit by a car—an accident
that left her physically damaged and destroyed
an ability any chef requires: the ability to smell.
Devastated, Birnbaum dropped out of school
and sank into depression.

wouldn't even look at him and how a third was constantly
checking his watch.
