That motto has elevated a simple fraternity and sorority campaign into a major statewide philanthropy. In 2007, the University of Michigan's Sigma Alpha Mu (Sammy) fraternity and Sigma Delta Tau (SDT) sorority joined forces to start "Go Blue Wear Pink." The two Jewish organizations have since raised more than $100,000 to benefit the Mid-Michigan affili- ate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, and Go Blue Wear Pink is now a student organization sponsored by the University of Michigan Health Services Department. Go Blue Wear Pink annually holds a weeklong campaign on the U-M Diag, the epicenter of campus, to distribute its signature T-shirts for $10 dona- tions. The popularity of these shirts can be seen across campus. "It is a great feeling to see that everybody on campus is wearing our T-shirts well after the event ends:' said Jake Metzger, Sammy vice-president and Farmington Hills native. Members of Sammy and SDT come together to sell these shirts, control- ling the Diag for a week. In the first two days of the 2011 campaign, Oct. 5-12, Go Blue Wear Pink sold 1,000 U-M quarterback Denard Robinson and Eric Bormel show their support. shirts and raised $11,000. Shirt sales need to be maximized, as Go Blue Wear Pink will battle newly founded Go Green Wear Pink of Michigan State University to see which university can raise the most funds. It is exciting for both organizations, as they hope for their partnership to grow into a school-wide battle that can make both universities proud. Go Blue Wear Pink symbolizes stu- dents' continual commitment towards tzedakah. "I love to sell the shirts and I feel good doing it, too:' said board mem- ber and West Bloomfield native Adam Marsch. "It is my responsibility to give back." For those interested in placing a shirt order for pick-up only, email info@gobluewearpink.org with a size (S-XXL) and color choice (gray or pink) by Oct. 21. If you wish to donate to the cause, make checks payable to Go Blue Wear Pink and address them to Go Blue Wear Pink, 800 Oxford Road, Ann Arbor, MI. 48104.
