to

n the age of Groupon and
LivingSocial it only makes sense
that a new business would pop
up locally to get in on the action.
OyWhataDeal.com is that business,
reaching out to the entire community
with a somewhat focused lens on the
Jewish community in particular.
Featuring a different deal everyday,
subscribers can buy a deal in advance
with the "get it while it's hot" feeling
driving them to buy before time runs
out. And with no upfront cost to the
merchant to feature a deal, there's no
reason not to sign up. In a world that
is driven by economic gain for mer-
chants and by savings and discounts
for consumers more than ever before,
OyWhataDeal gives both the merchant
and consumers exactly what they're
looking for.
Running since January 2011,
OyWhataDeal has more than 7,000
subscribers. The website has featured
200 deals from businesses throughout
Detroit's northern suburbs, including
the JN, which has featured subscrip-
tion deals through the service. The
company has also partnered with
Hour Detroit's "Deal du Jour" and
Dishkin.com , both other online deal
websites.
Subscribers receive emails with
all the daily deals. When they see
what they like, they simply go to
oywhatadeal.com and click "Buy Now."
The customer pays OyWhataDeal and
prints the coupon right then, to save for
later or to send to someone as a gift.
Lynn Lipman of West Bloomfield
has been a subscriber to OyWhataDeal
since March and has bought and used
over 15 deals. "You sign up on the
website and then they send you emails
with all of the deals. It's easy and user
friendly. And the name is catchy, too!"

Because OyWhataDeal is local, there
is no need to search for deals nearby,
and you support local businesses.
Recently featured deals include half-
off at Sundance Shoes, a two-for-one
deal to the Michigan Opera Theater
Season Preview at the Berman Center
for the Performing Arts, and 40 per-
cent off of Harvard Row Kosher Meat
and Poultry prepared foods.
"For those of us who keep kosher,
it's nice to go in and get a great deal
on kosher food:' said Lipman, who
took advantage of the Harvard Row
deal. "With other companies, you can't
just go on and find something that
works for you. And it's nice that we're
able to support the businesses that
cater to us?'
OyWhataDeal has had the added
benefit of keeping Detroiters in
Detroit. While Brian Giles, a Detroit
native now living in Chicago, started
the company, OyWhataDeal has
employees running operations locally.
Jodi Beals of West Bloomfield
was looking to move to New York
when she heard about a job at
OyWhataDeal. Now a marketing and
sales representative, Beals is glad she
got to stay in Detroit to be a part of
the company.
"It's nice being a part of a ground-
breaking company where I can really
get my feet wet:' Beals said. "I can go
into businesses where I either know
the owner or frequent the business
myself. This reminds me that it's good
to be home."
The community aspect of the com-
pany has even more appeal to Beals.
"With the downfall of the economy
a lot of people in our community are
looking for deals:' she said. "It's a great
way for companies to feature them-
selves without getting lost in all of the
advertising clutter."
