Wine & Dine Event To Aid
Multiple Myeloma Research
The first annual Wine & Dine in
the D will be held at 6:30 p.m.
Thursday, Oct. 13, in the Music
Box at Orchestra Hall in Detroit.
The event will benefit the Multiple
Myeloma Research Foundation.
The tasting event will feature fare
from more than 15 of Michigan's
best restaurants, including 24 Grille
at the Westin Book Cadillac, Bella
Piati, Beverly Hills Grill, Cabot
Vermont Cheese, Cadillac Coffee,
Cafe Cortina, Detroit Seafood
Market, Giovanni's Ristorante,
Maisano, Mitchell's Fish Market,
O'Brien's Crabhouse, Parthenon,
Pizzeria Biga, Rattlesnake Club,
Sindbad's, Table 5, Tallulah, Tre
Monti and Vicente's Cuban Cuisine,
among others.
The cuisine will be paired with
Michigan wines provided by Bel
Lago Winery, Brys Estate, Chateau
Grand Traverse Winery, Circa
Winery, Elite Brands Distributing,
Grand Traverse Distillery, Hall
Winery, L. Mawby Winery, Left Foot
Charley Winery and Verterra Winery.
"Wine & Dine in the D is a
terrific opportunity to show sup-
port for families battling multiple
myeloma," said Sid Moss, real estate
developer and host of the event.
"Our goal is to raise funds for the
development of next-generation
multiple myeloma treatments to
extend the lives of patients and lead
to a cure."
Multiple myeloma is an incurable
blood cancer. The five-year rela-
tive survival rate for the disease is
approximately 38 percent, one of
the lowest of all cancers. In 2010,
more than 20,000 adults in the
United States were estimated to be
diagnosed with multiple myeloma
and approximately 11,000 people
died from the disease.
This is the first event of its
kind to raise funds for multiple
myeloma in Michigan. It also will
feature a silent auction, live music
by jazz singer Ursula Walker and
valet parking in addition to a brief
presentation by Dr. Jeffrey Margolis,
medical oncologist at Beaumont
Hospital, and Dr. Michael Lill, stem
cell researcher at Cedars-Sinai
Hospital in Los Angeles. Margolis,
Lill and Detroit Mayor Dave Bing
will serve as honorary event chairs.
Tickets for Wine & Dine in the D
are $150 per person. Patron tickets
are $250 per person and include
special recognition and a pre-
reception at 6 p.m. Purchase tickets
