Kennedy Jr. will be the keynote speaker at the Sinai Guild's Women in Philanthropy 2011 program on Wednesday, Oct. 12, at Congregation Shaarey Zedek in Southfield. Kennedy's presentation, "The Environment and Your Health," will begin at noon, followed by a lun- cheon at 1 p.m. Kennedy's reputation as a resolute defender of the environment stems from a litany of successful legal actions. He was named one of Time magazine's Heroes for the Planet. He was also named one of Rolling Stone's 100 Agents of Change. Kennedy serves as senior attorney for the Natural Resources Defense Council, professor at Pace University in New York, presi- dent of Waterkeeper Alliance, and is Robert the environmental Kennedy Jr. adviser to Napo Pharmaceuticals. The Sinai Guild's mission is to support and promote medical and scientific activities that benefit both the Jewish and metropolitan Detroit communities through the Health and Wellness Foundation of Greater Detroit and the agencies of the Jewish community. The Sinai Guild awards grants to community projects that enhance the health and well-being of the citizens of Metro Detroit. Grant funds have been used to purchase prescrip- tion medications and eyeglasses for uninsured seniors, to provide defi- brillators for programs that serve the mentally ill and to obtain medical supplies for nonprofit clinics. Donor levels for the luncheon range from $100 to $10,000. Donors who contribute $1,200 or more will have the opportunity to attend the patron breakfast at Knollwood Country Club, where they will be able to meet and greet Kennedy. All dona- tion and/or ticket purchases for the event will support the work of the Sinai Guild. Jacqui Elkus of West Bloomfield and Sandi Matz of Franklin are chairing the event. Rusty Rosman of Commerce Township is Sinai Guild president. To make reservations for Women in Philanthropy 2011, contact the Sinai Guild at (248) 538-6501. I I
