I take this concept very seriously, and my strong Jewish values play a large role in my everyday actions and deci- sions. Recently, I was at an event where another teen's needs and values were disregarded. I have been taught that it is important to stand up for one's beliefs and support someone who is being treated inappropriately. Therefore, I chose to express my support for the affected teen, although it made the situation more difficult for me. Judaism has also helped me realize the values of education, stimulating discussions and polite discourse, being inclusive and volunteering or seeking ways "to help repair the world" [Tikkun Olam]. I have not only volunteered over 1,000 hours while in high school, but also applied to colleges that place a strong emphasis on com- munity service. I plan to be an active participant in college-spon- sored volunteer opportunities and beyond. Another way I have remained an active participant in the Jewish community is by choosing to become a member of BBYO (B'nai Brith Youth Organization). My B'nai Brith Girls (BBG) chapter is like a second family. I originally joined BBG to meet Jewish teens from other high schools. At the time, I never imagined the many unique friendships and leadership opportunities that I would experi- ence.
