Cooper's CNN Newsmagazine 360.
Miles was the student body corn-
mencement speaker at his Cranbrook
Kingswood graduation ceremony and
was joined by guest speaker and fellow
alum, ABC News anchor Bob Woodruff,
who befriended Miles during a chance
meeting at Detroit Metropolitan
Airport. Miles was awarded the 2008
Leadership in Courage Award by the
Sarcoma Foundation of America, of
which past recipients include U.S. Sen.
Mark Pryor, Ted Kennedy Jr. and Carole
Radziwill.
"Miles got it," said his dad. "The 'it'
being the goal of doing what we can
do to help those who are less advan-
taged than are we. This is exactly
what Richard is doing. The way he
puts it is that every child wants
and deserves a full measure of life,
independent of their background or
resources. Whereas Miles Levin had
the best care that modern technology
and science could deliver, the children
of Khotang he has 'adopted' do not.
That gap between Miles Levin's care on
one end, and that available to the chil-
dren of Khotang, must be closed."
Levin describes Keidan as "an
incredibly robust, dynamic, engag-
ing, focused, energetic, determined
person." He said Keidan's work "jibes
perfectly with Miles Levin's written
words: 'Dying is not what scares me;
it is dying having had no impact. In
short, Richard is helping me extend
Miles' impact."
Keidan said, "We hope we can make
an impact with regards to the lives of
the children of Nepal. If we can give
them access to good health care, and
give them educational opportunities, we
will accomplish what Miles wanted." II
