Chopstix Bistro May Stick Around

Asian eatery off to a good start at Orchard Lake Road intersection.

I

t is another restaurant that follows
eight others opening and closing at
the busy intersection of Orchard Lake
Road and Pontiac Trail in Orchard Lake
Village ... All except possibly the original
tenant, Meating Place, were short of suc-
cessful ... Treats, Roadhouse, Buster's Bay,
Jake's on the Lake, Taes, Chef Theodore
and Italia Fresco, the latter still open but
in another location.
However, what may be in its favor is
being a restaurant whose food is considered
to be among the "hottest" styles of ethnic
dining ... And what many others wished
for at that site but were not able to obtain
... a license for beer, wine and liquor.
Chopstix Sushi and Asian Bistro takes
in Asian fusion that features Japanese,
Chinese and Korean dishes with the
emphasis on Japanese cuisine.
Another saver could be the addition of
wine, including sake, beer, mixed drinks,
etc., with a full-service liquor license.

ences with their eyes first.
Chopstix is a second dining operation
by Seung, whose Japanese restaurant,
Asahi, between 18 and 19 Mile roads in
Clinton Township, is a successful endeavor
... So much so that Seung has it running
in such a way as to enable him to devote
his entire time to the Orchard Lake Village
spot.

IS-VE 60'S MUSICAL SENSATION

"A Cherry Coke show with plenty of fizz! The audience devours Beehive
like a three foot hoagie." -- Time Magazine

[I believe it was Club Alamo, on
Livernois, owned by Max Spiegelman,
who was blind but uncannily made
change from the cash register, and Stewart
"Stewie" Siegel, who went on to become an
excellent Las Vegas pit boss ... To make
sure, I asked Bud Sherbow, former owner
and manager of a few niteries and eateries
around town, Club Alamo customer Avery
Warnick and Norm LePage, owner of Big
Rock in Birmingham, who all agree with
me that it was the popular Club Alamo].
WITH MANY FOLKS cutting back
on their consumption of food for health
purposes, it might be wise for deli owners
to look into making their corned beef and
pastrami sandwiches smaller, more like
those of yesteryears ... Much easier to eat
... And it would cut down on the prices
... Numerous people can only eat a half of
those overly-stacked sandwiches and leave
the other half.

Darby's restaurant, cringed when he saw
the fellow come in, which was very often
to have just one item ... The luscious
banana cream pie made fresh daily by
its pastry chef ... The guy always took a
bottle of salt out of his pocket and poured
it very generously on the delicious pie.
