Downtown Synagogue
Holiday Services At HMC
The Isaac Agree Downtown Synagogue
High Holiday services this year will be
held at the Holocaust Memorial Center,
28123 Orchard Lake Road, Farmington
Hills. They are open to all and free of
charge or obligation.
The seating capacity of the largest
room is 325 — with an additional
125 seats in a adjacent room to view
services on a TV screen. Early arrival
is suggested for seating in the main
sanctuary, particularly on the first day
of Rosh Hashanah, Kol Nidre and for
Yom Kippur Yizkor.
Services times are:
• Rosh Hashanah, Wednesday eve-
ning, Sept. 28, 6 p.m.; Thursday, Sept.
29,8:30 a.m. and 6 p.m.; Friday, Sept.
30,8:30 a.m.
• Shabbat Shuvah, Friday, Sept. 30, 6
p.m.; Saturday, Oct. 1, 9 a.m.
• Yom Kippur: Friday, Oct. 7, Kol
Nidre 6:30 p.m.; Saturday, Oct. 8, 9:30
a.m.; Yizkor 12:30 p.m. Minchah 5:45
p.m.; Neilah, 7 p.m.; blowing of the
shofar 8:20 p.m.

High Holiday Services
Set For Grosse Pointe
The Grosse Pointe Jewish Council's
High Holiday services will be led by
Rabbi David Nelson and Cantorial
Soloist Bryant Frank.
Rosh Hashanah services will be on
the evening of Wednesday, Sept. 28,
and the morning of Thursday, Sept.
29. Services for Yom Kippur will be
on the evening of Friday, Oct. 7, and
throughout the day Saturday, Oct. 8.
There will be children's services on
both holidays .
For 22 years, the council has
worked to promote Jewish heritage on
Detroit's east side. Its Sunday school
is accepting students for the fall term.

Art Exhibit, Sale
At Adat Shalom
Adat Shalom Synagogue in Farmington
Hills invites the community to
"Expressions — an Art Exhibit and
Sale" beginning 7-9 p.m. Thursday,

Sept. 22. There will be a dessert recep-
tion and a showcasing of the work of
more than 150 artists.
The exhibit and sale will continue
9 a.m.-2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 23, and
Sunday-Monday, Sept. 25-26.
Curator of the exhibit is Col. Izzy
Assour, an Israeli sculptor. The works
will be a cross-section of art by
Russian, Israeli, Ethiopian, French,
Yemen and English artists, including
Agam, Ebgi, Meisler, Yacov and Baruch
Sketsiar, plus a wide array of gold and
silver jewelry, Judaica, oils, tapestries
and sculptures.
The reception and exhibition are
open to the community at no charge.

Ovarian Cancer Benefit
At Music Academy
Southfield-based Axis Music Academy
and OROC (Out Run Ovarian Cancer/
oroc.org) will present an evening of live
music, auctions, food and entertain-
ment from 7-11 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22,
at the Hard Rock Cafe, Detroit.
Donations are $10 and include
special pricing on food and beverages
although more generous contributions

Plant-Based Food
At Lecture, Tasting
The Wellness Training Institute (WTI)
will present "Food Is Medicine IV:
Simple Secrets to Health at Home" with
Dr. Michael Dangovian and Chef George
Vutetakis 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 21.
Dr. Dangovian will discuss the power
of plant-based foods to reduce stress,
enhance heart health and increase
energy levels, while Chef George shares
secret techniques for creating healthy
meals with fantastic flavors.
The event is sponsored by Inn
Season Cafe and Whole Foods Market.
The presentation will take place
at the Wellness Training Institute,
39242 Dequindre, Suite 103 in Sterling
Heights. The cost is $30 and includes
the talk, cooking demonstration and

Joan Rivers Stars In
DMC Guild Fundraiser
The DMC Guild with co-sponsors the
DMC Children's Hospital of Michigan
and the Harper Bariatric Medicine
Institute will host its first annual fund-
raiser at Andiamo Celebrity Showroom
in Warren on Saturday, Sept. 17.
The event will include cocktails,
dinner and a great show with the
comedian Joan Rivers. This is Joan
Rivers' only remaining scheduled
appearance in Southeast Michigan
this year.
