Rabbi Miller Certifies
Inn Season Cafe Kosher
Royal Oak-based Inn Season Cafe,
serving vegetarian and vegan fare for
30 years, has been certified kosher by
Rabbi Jason Miller of Kosher Michigan.
Nick Raftis, owner of the Inn Season
Cafe, recognized that the restaurant's
vegan/vegetarian offerings were a good
fit for the kosher-keeping community.
Miller inspected every ingredient
used as well as the processes used in
the kitchen in the preparation and
creation of the dishes before granting
the certification. "There were very few
things that needed to be changed in
order for the restaurant to meet my
standards:' Miller said, adding that the
restaurant takes veganism (strict veg-
etarianism) very seriously.
"Nothing about the high quality or
integrity of our food will change as a
result, except that our many customers
who maintain a kosher diet will now
always feel comfortable eating here
Raftis said, adding that the restaurant
has seen a steady increase in traffic
since becoming certified last month.
The restaurant is kicking off its 30th
anniversary this month. There will be
free cupcakes on Sept. 30, Oct. 30, and
Nov. 30 as well as Facebook giveaways
and a special dinner on Oct. 17.

Rep. Peters To Run In New
14th Congressional District
Rep. Gary Peters, D-Bloomfield
Township, announced on Sept. 8 that
he will seek re-election to Congress
in the newly drawn
14th Congressional
District, which
includes
Farmington
Hills, Oak Park,
Southfield and parts
of West Bloomfield,
as well as areas
Rep. Gary
of Detroit, Grosse
Peters
Pointe and Pontiac.
Due to the redistricting, if Peters
sought to remain in the 9th District,
he would have had to go up against
longtime Rep. Sander Levin of Royal
Oak.
Peters has already represented

much of the newly drawn 14th
District (West Bloomfield and
Farmington Hills are part of his
current district.) "Congressional dis-
tricts are just lines on a map:' Peters
said in a statement. "I believe that
regardless of where we call home, we
all want the same thing: economic
security, fairness from government
and an honest chance to find success
and happiness."
Rep. John Conyers of Detroit, who
now represents the 14th District, is
expected to announce that he will
run in the 13th District, now repre-
sented by Hansen Clarke. Clarke has
already announced that he will run
for re-election in the 14th District.
Other possible candidates in the 14th
District include Democrats Brenda
Lawrence, mayor of Southfield, and
State Sen. Vincent Gregory.
