Housing Association (JHA)
— formed in 2008 to assist
families in Metro Detroit's Jewish

community members navigate the
available federal programs, refinance
their mortgages or negotiate with their
banks for reduced mortgage payments.
Managing director Patricia Burkhardt,
who has expertise in mortgage bank-
ing and foreclosure prevention, led the
Southfield office.
"The goal was to ensure that Jewish
family homes were not foreclosed
upon," Ohren said.
According to Ohren, the JHA ran
out of funding as the priorities of its
donor changed. Since the staff at the
JHA office had always been employees
of JFS, continuing the mission in West
Bloomfield was a natural.
