Jewish Dental Clinic Plans Golf Outing The Jewish Dental Clinic (JDC) of Metro Detroit will host the Dr. Arnold Zuroff Memorial Golf Outing and Dinner at Beacon Hill Golf and Banquet Center in Commerce Township on Wednesday, Sept. 14. Registration and lunch will begin at 11:30 a.m.; shotgun starts at 1 p.m; cocktails are at 5:30 p.m. and dinner is at 6 p.m. The event is a benefit for the Jewish Dental Clinic, a nonprofit organization that provides free dental care to families in need. The clinic was inspired by the late Arnold Zuroff, a local endo- dontist famous for providing free services first to Russian-Jewish immigrants and then to others unable to afford dental care. Not only did he offer outstanding and free care, he actually managed to make the experience a pleasure for his clients, friends say. Zuroff was known to tell jokes and even sing in Yiddish or Russian, or perhaps a bit of opera, while filling a cavity or repairing a chipped tooth. When not working, Zuroff could be found on the golf course. "He was widely known for his creative approach to the rules of golf:' said his friend Mort Plotnick of West Bloomfield. "But since he was so loved, no one ever complained." The cost of the event, which includes cocktails and a kosher dinner, is $180 per golfer. Sponsorship packages also are available for two, four or six play- ers. For information, contact Larry Schon at lschon@sbcglobal.net or (248) 514-7082.
