Birthday Reunion

Oak Park High School friends reconnect at a weekend in Charlevoix.

M

ost high school girlfriends soon lose
touch with each other after gradu-
ation, but not so for the Oak Park
High School Class of 1969.
On the weekend of Aug. 4-7, a group of 20
former classmates traveled to Charlevoix to get
reacquainted and celebrate their mutual 60th
birthdays because most were born in 1951.
Janice Cherkasky of Franklin and Beth
Erman of West Bloomfield came up with the
idea of a big birthday/reunion weekend. They
hosted two lavish dinners for the alumna at
their lovely Charlevoix homes. The weekend
was packed with fun activities: golf, exercise
boot camp, yoga, bicycling, walking, antiquing,
mah jong, shopping, Zumba, cocktail parties
and a Saturday night beach bonfire highlighted
by a jaw-dropping game of "Truth or Dare,"
where everyone was challenged to tell the group
something that no one else knew about them.
Women came from all around the country,
including Minda Parrish Werner and Laurie
Brandt Goldman from California, Eileen Taxe
Levine from Boston, Laurie Stern Singer from
Pittsburgh, Judy Pollack Moss from Memphis,
Rona Pershin Sheridan from Florida and
Lisa Goodman Pomeroy from Melbourne,
Australia. The group of professional women
has enjoyed careers in television, education,
psychology, event planning and law — and
even includes Char Margolis, the world-
renowned psychic.
"All of us feel that our class was very
unique," said Nancy Kwaselow of West
Bloomfield. "We have remained close to many
of our Oak Park High School classmates,
even though distance and years have come
between us. We all have an incredible bond
and are already looking forward to celebrating
our lifelong friendships again in the future in
Charlevoix:'

Kadima golf classic raises funds for agency programs.

M

ore than 130 golfers teed up at Kadima's 10th Annual Golf Classic held July 18
at Franklin Hills Country Club. The day was sunny and warm as golfers took
to the course to benefit Kadima and the more than 200 men and women who
receive mental health services at the Southfield-based agency.
Following a day of golf, guests relaxed with cocktails, dinner and a silent and live auction.
Autographed sport jerseys, Tiger suites, Red Wing tickets and weekend entertainment pack-
ages were just some of the auction items up for bid. The customary bid for a kosher salami

had the ante upped when the auctioneer banged the gavel and sold two salamis for $2,000!
Eli Saulson and Keith Lewis, co-chairs of the event, and committee members worked
tirelessly to uphold the tradition that this event be special and fun for the golfers and a
success for Kadima. Proceeds from the golf outing ensure funding for Kadima's Lois and
Milton Y. Zussman Activity Center that serves an average of 40 clients a day with holiday
celebrations and stimulating, creative and educational programs and activities through-
out the year.
