She was the president and found- er of BookSmart, a children's book distributor and book fair company. An accomplished businesswoman, literary, cultural and political aficio- nado, she cited her greatest legacy and accomplishments as a life-long passion for and devotion to her children and grandchildren. Her wide-ranging intelligence, counsel, radiant smile and wit gave inspira- tion to all the lives she touched. Born in Detroit in 1935, Ms. Tennen attended the University of Michigan and graduated phi beta kappa with a degree in English lit- erature from Wayne State University. She lived in Franklin until 1982, when she moved to New York City to start BookSmart, originally a children's book catalogue company. Earlier, she was president of the Children's Bookshop in Southfield, a firm she founded in 1978. Ms. Tennen is survived by her three children, Marcie of Connecticut, Bruce of Franklin and Nancy of New York; grandchildren, Jenna Petok and Will Petock, Zach Tennen and Paige Tennen, Jake Solomon and Jeff Solomon; sons-in- law, Seth Petok and Cliff Solomon. She was the devoted daughter of the late Joel and the late Sara Josephson; loving grandmother of the late Spencer Solomon.
