Those Wonderful Days
The Gershwins, Berlin, Kern, Rodgers ... now that was music!
I
n just one phrase, George Gershwin
couldn't have said it any better than
the title of his song — "'S Wonderful?'
This was the wonderful tribute in
memory of a wonderful guy by members
of Michigan Opera Theatre whose won-
derful presentation of "Masters of 20th
Century Music" captivated a thrilled audi-
ence of more than 1,100 at Temple Beth El,
Bloomfield Township.
The Temple's Senior Concert, in mem-
ory of Edward "Eddie" Rosenberg and
sponsored by his wife, Shirley, was open
to all seniors of the community and else-
where ... And the thrill-packed audience
was not disappointed as four members of
M.O.T. performed magnificently, accom-
panied by their pianist and synthesizer
artist.
Although
Eddie's great musi-
cal loves included
big bands and per-
formers of the '50s
through '90s, the
performance of
99-percent show
tunes by Irving
Berlin, George
and Ira Gershwin, George Gershwin
Jerome Kern,
Richard Rodgers,
etc., were also his favored musical thrills.
The afternoon concert began with Rabbi
Daniel Syme giving his usual fine open-
ing remarks as he welcomed the large
throng ... Then Eddie's and Shirley's son
Howard Rosenberg told of Eddie's great
days, followed by their daughter, Marlene
Rosenberg, who told of her dad's love for
Frank Sinatra and how Eddie was called
"Blue Eyes" until his later years, when los-
ing the sight of one eye and telling Marlene
to make it singular and call him "Blue Eye:'
Before the concert, Howard talked of
his dad's collection of records that he and
others were still looking for ... An assort-
ment of popular, jazz and stan-
dard tunes by favorite artists
... Shirley doesn't know either
whatever happened to them
but might remember when
Eddie played those records on
his many trips to South Haven
where her parents owned
Baron's Resort.
The concert opened with
Irving Berlin's "Alexander's
Ragtime Band" by the four
M.O.T. songsters (two gents
and two ladies) ... followed by
a fast-moving barrage of show tune melo-
dies that will live forever.
What wonderful music it is ... What won-
derful memories for so many of the over
1,100 attendees.
So many kudos
for the four song-
sters doing solos,
duets, trios and
quartet song-weav-
ing in a fast-paced
hour-and-a-half
of nonstop musi-
cal magic written
by the greatest
American masters
Irving Berlin
of the musical
show world.
Give a hand, too, to chairwoman of the
Senior Concerts at Temple Beth El, Cindy
Bolofsky and her wonderful volunteers of
ushers, etc., like Mark Cooperman, Bob
Dickstein, Lois Freeman, Dolly Lax, Karen
Lowen, Rochelle Nelson, Evelyn Prince,
Julian Prince, Chuck Zamek, etc. ... and
those working outside in the over-90
degree weather waving and stopping the
lineup of cars while perspiration gave
their skins open-pore baths.
It was a wonderful afternoon in memory
of a wonderful guy by a wonderful wife and
her wonderful children ... ending with the
Michigan Opera Theatre singers and large
&feofctl.

"The Golden Mushroom was my absolute
favorite restaurant. I loved it so much
that when I married Sam Gordonov we
named our dog Mushroom and called
him Mushie. I loved everything it served
and Sam especially liked the wild game. I
knew that Chef Milos was the chef when
we went there but not that he was also one
of the owners. Are you sure he was a part-
ner?" ... Maureen Gordon.
