In the past, individual stainless steel ring% known as bands, were wrapped
I around, and cemented to each tooth. Although this method was effective,
it made for a mouthful of metal that was often referred to as a 'tin grin!
Today, use of bands is usually limited to the posterior or back teeth, where
they can sustain greater forces and serve as anchors to the wire. The front
teeth are treated to the tiny brackets, which can be available in clear, silver,
gold or even titanium. These less visible brackets all but eliminate the self
consciousness that used to be associated with the larger metal braces.

These small brackets allow for lighter and more comfortable forces to be
applied to the teeth in addition to the benefit of easier oral hygiene for the
patient. Even the brackets can be extra small in size depending upon the
orthodontist's selection, usually based on his dexterity and size of his hands.

The new bracketing system can make placement of the orthodontic appliance
quicker and more comfortable. For many it can be made fun with the

children, Katy Ann and Simon Cary.
Katy graduated from the University of
Michigan with a bachelor's degree in social
sciences and a master's degree in social
work. She is a school social worker in the
Wayne-Westland School District.
Simon graduated from the University
of Michigan with a bachelor's degree in
psychology and earned a master's degree
in clinical and humanistic psychology from
the Michigan School of Professional Psychology. He is employed at the Rochester
Center for Behavioral Medicine.
An August wedding is planned at the Willens' home on Pickerel Lake in
northern Michigan. After a honeymoon in British Columbia, the couple will
return to their home in Ferndale.

to Jason Nager, son of Edward and Susan
Nager.
Proud grandparents are June Kamil,

The couple are also the grandchildren of
the late Dr. Richard Kamil, the late Glenn
Harder, the late Nathan and the late Ida
Nager.
Rita is a "rich media" client solutions
manager at Google and Jason is a technol-
ogy associate at Morgan Stanley. The couple work and reside in New York City.
The wedding will be held in August at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield, offi-
ciated by Rabbi Harold Loss and Cantorial Soloist Neil Michaels.
The couple will honeymoon in the Mediterranean.
