Like many large organizations and businesses, Oakland
County government has a pharmacy benefit manager
(PBM) that chooses the most cost-effective prescrip-
tion providers for its employees. In the case of Oakland
County, the PBM is Navitus, which just announced a con-
tract with NoviXus.
"We are very pleased that Oakland County will now
be working with NoviXus to fill its mail-order prescrip-
tions," said Terry Seligman, president and CEO of Navitus.
"Navitus clients based in Michigan have been working
with NoviXus since its inception in 2009, and we appre-
ciate their mission to grow business within Michigan.
We have continually found that the growing company
adheres to an entirely professional and transparent man-
ner of conducting business."
On Sept. 1, NoviXus will start providing prescriptions
to employees of the University of Michigan. "We have a
direct relationship with the University of Michigan, which
is a very innovative employer. This will create cost sav-
ings to both companies, and we are very proud of that:'
Newman said.
For community pharmacies in Michigan, NoviXus is
throwing a life buoy. Rich Grossman, vice president of
pharmacy services, takes up the story.
"Our plant has been built to also be a central-fill facil-
ity for community pharmacies. We will be able to prepare
90-day prescriptions for our local pharmacies to dispense
at a cost savings to their operation!"
Essentially, this means that community pharmacies
will be able to charge patients the same as mail-
order. For patients who still prefer to visit their
local pharmacist and ask questions directly, that's
good news.
Grossman, who is also owner of West Grange
Pharmacy in Trenton, added, "Our process to dis-
pense prescriptions is not only very efficient, but
also is very safe. As a pharmacist, I am 100 percent
confident that we are dispensing prescriptions that
are accurate and safe for the patient to use."
As part of the growth of NoviXus from the
very beginning, Grossman describes his involve-
ment with the new company as one of his best
accomplishments. "Our hope is to be looked at
as the solution for employer groups that manage
their own prescription benefit. We can save these
employers significant dollars, as well as their
employees. In addition, we are doing our part in
controlling the cost of healthcare and keeping jobs
in Michigan," he said.
For Newman, NoviXus is an extension of her
current business and one that is protecting the
future of pharmacies in Michigan. "Jobs were
being lost in Michigan as drugstores were going
out of business. Out of principle we couldn't let
that happen:' she said. f l
