Obama Is Ignoring
Bush's Vow To Israel
In "Democrats Seek Support" (July
21, page 28), the article states, "It may
be fine to criticize Obama for pressing
Israel to negotiate with the Palestinians
on the basis of the 1967 lines, they
[Sens. Carl Levin of Michigan and Ben
Cardin of Maryland] said, but it's dis-
honest not to mention he also called for
mutually agreed land swaps and secure
borders for Israel!'
The senators obviously ignore what
conservative commentator Charles
Krauthammer notes: "President
George W. Bush gave a written commit-
ment that America supported Israel
absorbing major settlement blocs in
any peace agreement, opposed any
return to the 1967 lines and stood firm
against the so-called Palestinian right
of return to Israel!'
Notice it was put in writing that Israel
was not to return to the 1967 lines.
Obama is ignoring that written state-
ment. If that is the case, why should Israel
or any other country believe what the
United States says?
In addition, the senators, like °barna,
do not mention the right of return. That
should be a nonstarter. Why are they
ignoring it?

Ritchie Boys Exhibit
Is Source Of Pride
What an enlightening experience I
had today, July 24, at the Holocaust
Memorial Center Zekelman Family
Campus. I attended the opening of
"Secret Heroes: The Ritchie Boys" (see
related story, page 22).
The exhibit is about a group of then-
young men, boys really, who came to this
country after having escaped from the
Nazis. They enlisted in the U.S. Army
and were specially trained at Camp
Ritchie in Maryland to use their lan-
guage and culture to spy on and extract
information from the very enemy who
had made their lives hell. It is a subject
that has been vastly under-reported.
As Jews we can be very proud of the
contribution this group of immigrants
made toward winning World War II.
Their efforts also helped establish inter-
rogation standards that are still used
and respected today. I think the title of
the Ritchie Boys' exhibit should have
been "Secret Heroes Among Us."
How proud we can be of those war-
riors who went on to raise families and
lead unassuming, productive lives after
helping to turn the tide against the
Nazis. The exhibit was conceived and
produced at the Holocaust Center under
the direction of Stephen Goldman and
our very own Ritchie Boy, Dr. Guy Stern.
It is an exhibit worth seeing and will be
at the center until Feb. 5, 2012.
