obituaries Obituaries from page 57 EDWARD W. SCHWARZ, 82, formerly of Bloomfield Hills, died July 12, 2011, after a courageous battle with prostate cancer. He was born in Stuttgart, Germany, and came to the United States in 1940 on the last ship out of London with his parents Eugene and Annie Schwarz. He was a veteran of the Korean War. His professional career included IBM branch manager, Detroit, and president of Citizens' Mortgage Corporation. Upon retirement he did assignments for International Executive Service Corp. in Guatemala and Ecuador. He also built houses in Bridgeport for Habitat for Humanity and worked at the Norwalk Probate Department. Mr. Schwarz was an ardent skier and loved skiing at Stratton Mountain, Vt., where he and his family owned a sec- ond home. He was a tennis player and a collector of antique clocks and art pho- tography. His greatest love was working in his garden and always repainting his fences. He loved travel and went on many family vacations, gathering his children and grandchildren from Detroit and Chicago. He was known for his keen sense of wit and enjoyment of life. Mr. Schwarz passed on surrounded by his loving wife, Shirlee, of 54 years; children, Tom Schwarz and his wife Jane Goldenberg, Carolyn Tisdale and her husband Larry; and his grandchildren, Marisa and Harrison Schwarz, Jason, Rachel, and Lauren Tisdale. BARBARA TOBIAS, 82, of Boynton Beach, Fla., passed away peacefully July 5, 2011. She was born Nov. 23,1928, in Detroit.
