GUYS GALS of $100,000 is met, the application pro- cess will begin this fall. New Leadership While momentum is building for the Do It for Detroit campaign, there's a changing of the guard of sorts taking place among Federation's young adult leaders. Josh Levine, 32, of Huntington Woods was recently sworn in as the new president of Federation's Young Adult Division (YAD). Jessica Goodwin, 27, of Southfield, a former Federation campaign asso- ciate, has been promoted to YAD director. Jordan Wolfe, 28, director of CommunityNEXT and one of six Moishe House residents, is slated to leave his position in September. A search is under way for his replace- ment, although Wolfe is expected to remain involved in a consulting role. Kaufman says an effort to merge YAD, CommunityNEXT and other programs like Birthright Israel, which provides free 10-day trips to Israel for Jewish 18- to 26-year-olds visiting Israel for the first time, is also in the works as part of Federation's cost consolidating. "We're in the process now of work- ing on a comprehensive strategy for Next-Gen Detroit; that's a working title,' Kaufman told members of the Jewish News editorial board during a recent meeting. "Looking at CommunityNEXT, YAD and Birthright, we have excellent programming in all of these spaces. The challenge is to create a holistic structure to keep some of the entrepre- neurial energy and speed of, let's say CommunityNEXT or Birthright, but give it the right levels of oversight and, more importantly, the right sense of coordination and teamwork." Rebuilding Detroit Meetings and brainstorming sessions are taking place as the new structural model is built. Nothing has been final- ized, including a budget or timeframe for this process. But one thing is clear: There's energy and excitement about rebuilding Detroit that even caught the attention of the New York Times. A July 1 article titled "Detroit Pushes Back with Young Muscles" quoted several members of the local Jewish commu- nity and described Detroit as a land of opportunity. "The city seems like a giant candy store for young college graduates wanting to be their own bosses," the article read. "All that has helped cre- ate an entrepreneurial spirit."
