Waiting For Reciprocity
From Muslim Community

It is a credit to the Jewish leadership
and community that so much effort
goes into supporting and defending
Muslims (although is it really neces-
sary to personally attack with charges
of bigotry those who have good faith
disagreements about these issues?).
Hopefully, the JCRC and ADL will
set an example for CAIR (Council
on American-Islamic Relations)
and other Muslim/Arab American
groups to speak out on behalf of non-
Muslims. For example, wouldn't it be
nice for CAIR to condemn Palestinian
terrorists who fire rockets at innocent
Israelis and Israeli school buses? And,
wouldn't it be nice for CAIR and
their affiliates to condemn those who
demonize and delegitimize Israel on a
daily basis on our college campuses?
Unfortunately, CAIR and many
other Muslim/Arab organizations are
the ones who irrationally claim that
Hamas is not a terrorist organization,
and it is CAIR who incessantly incites
against Israel through lies and hate
speech.
Maybe one day all of JCRC's and
ADL's work will pay off with an ounce
of understanding from the Arab and
Muslim communities. Unfortunately,
up to this point, the response has been
quite disappointing.

Why Did ADL And JCRC
'Lend Cover' To CAIR?

I attended the June 14 Farmington
school board meeting regarding the
sale of Eagle Elementary. It was very
disturbing that directors of the ADL
and JCRC, silent on the district's lack
of transparency and circumvention of
the appropriate processes, would dis-
parage concerned citizens and defend
an organizational network that pro-
moted Israel-basher and Holocaust-
denigrater Norman Finkelstein and
that failed to condemn Helen Thomas'
anti-Semitic rants.
It is beyond belief that ADL and
JCRC would lend cover to and be
exploited as propaganda tools by
CAIR (Council on American-Islamic
Relations), as CAIR spoke and claimed
victory on behalf of the Islamic
Cultural Center. CAIR is an unin-
dicted co-conspirator in the Holy Land
Foundation (HLF) trial, the nation's
largest-ever prosecution of a terror-
financing case.
"CAIR has been identified by the
government at trial as a participant in

an ongoing and ultimately unlawful
conspiracy to support a designated
terrorist organization — a conspiracy
from which CAIR never withdrew':
wrote assistant U.S. Attorney Jim Jacks,
who was honored by Attorney General
Eric Holder for the HLF prosecution.
HLF defendants were convicted
on 108 felony counts of funneling
$12 million to Hamas, whose charter
calls for the destruction of Israel and
murder of Jews. The FBI suspended
all formal relations with CAIR. One
has only to wonder why our ADL and
JCRC have not.

Women's Foundation
Regrets Omissions

Our apologies to NCJW and JFS for the
omissions in our recent press release
to the JN about the Jewish Women's
Foundation 2011 Grant Cycle, and
therefore, the article that was printed.
NCJW, Greater Detroit Section is
the recipient of a $16,000 grant for its
new project called "Money Matters:
Financial Literacy and Loan Program"
for Jewish women and their teen
children to build skills for responsible
financial independence and establish-
ing credit. It is hoped that women
who have no financial independence
will use secured credit cards provided
through the program to establish
credit in their own names.
JFS received a $5,000 bridge grant for
Project Build to sustain program staffing
for several months, pending multi-year
funding from another source. Project
Build is a partnership between JFS and
the Building Industry Association of
Southeastern Michigan that provides
home repairs and modifications for
qualified low-income JFS clients.
The JWF is proud to partner with
NCJW and JWF in their work to
improve lives in our Jewish community.
