Kadima...caring, helping adults and children with mental illness to move fonvard in their lives.

ACCEPTANCE SPEECH GIVEN AT KADIMA'S
ANNUAL MEETING ON MAY 19, 2011

It is an exciting time
right now at Kadima.
We have accomplished
many goals during
Sandi Tamaroff's
time as President and
we owe her a round
of applause for her
dedication and positive
leadership.

Under the wise leadership of Janette Shallal,
our Executive Director, and with the effective
oversight of the board and committees, Kadima
has weathered the economic struggles of the region

with great success. Because of this foresight and
excellent management, we have the luxury and the
responsibility to set the course for Kadima as we, as
our name demands, move forward into the future.

It is obvious that the need for Kadima's services has
never been greater. All we need to do is look at
Kadima's houses. Not an open bed to be had. How
do we respond to this demand? As an organization
we need to decide where to go from here. Are
we comfortable at the present level of service and
housing that we provide? Should we continue with
slow growth? Should we accelerate that growth? It
seems obvious to me that the current environment
is one that lends itself to buying real estate, but

Kadima Clients...
the Power of Work

Fran - "Working keeps me productive and makes me feel capable
and better about myself. I feel more independent and have met
friends through work; friends that I socialize with outside of work.
Work has also helped me maintain my sense of humor. Sometimes
I can be pretty funny at work and other people laugh at my jokes.
Working gives me more confidence in other areas too."

Lora - I work at Kadima as the receptionist for an hour at lunch time.
My work gives me a sense of purpose in life. A purpose knowing
that even though I have mental illness, I am still employable. My
Lob has affected my mental health by teaching me the discipline and
focus I need to achieve at a job or anything I want to accomplish.
According to my supervisor, 'Lora is very helpful and organized. I
can always count on her to follow through with any request."

David - "I was reticent to become underemployed or work at a job
that I felt was beneath my capabilities. I also feared that no one
would hire me as I had become damaged goods. But someone
did hire me. Like the sitcom 'Cheers', I went each day where
everybody knew my name. My mood soared. I got over the
underemployment problem. I came to realized that whatever my
tasks, if I applied myself fully doing the best I could do, that was
enough."

New Grants

Kadima gratefully acknowledges recently awarded grants.

The Jewish Women's Foundation awarded Kadima a $15,000 grant to fund a project,
"Falling Through the Cracks: Helping Children with Mental Illness by Educating
Professionals". This project will provide clergy, board members, lay leaders and
educators with significant and relevant information on (1) how to identify early signs of
serious childhood and adolescent emotional and behavioral disorders and (2) how to gain
access to professional, referral and advocacy resources and services in our community.

The Jewish Fund awarded Kadima with a $60,000 grant to fund "Children — Our
Future". This is the third year of a three-year Jewish Fund grant which provided start-up
funding for Kadima to open a Child and Adolescent Program. Kadima provides services
to children and adolescents who are diagnosed with serious emotional and behavioral
disorders. Since this program opened, Kadima has provided services and referrals to
more than 55 children and their families. Presenting issues include diagnoses of bipolar,
ADHD, Asperger's, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, anxiety, reactive attachment disorder,
learning disabilities, depression, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, seizure disorders,
Tourette Syndrome, eating disorders, self mutilation and suicidal/homicidal ideation.
The need for this program is great and Kadima is encouraged knowing that the earlier
the intervention, the better the long-term outcome.

Thank you for trusting me with the stewardship of
this great organization. I look forward to continuing
to work with you to move Kadima forward.

Caring. Helping. Mental Illness.

Steve - "I work in the Kadima Cafe three days a week. I am a
store manager and I am responsible for balancing the daily amount
we take in. The inventory sheet has to balance with the cash box.
I enjoy my work. It gives me a reason to get out of bed in the
morning. I know that I am going to be doing something positive.
I really enjoy working with the customers and co-cashiers. It has
impacted my self-esteem in a very positive way knowing that I am
appreciated."

do we buy and hold or do we open new homes to
accommodate the demand we are seeing with a
corresponding increase in staff and overhead? These
are only some of the questions that we as a board
will be dealing with in the coming months. I will
rely on all of you, my Board of Directors, Kadima
staff and the community-at-large, for your varied
expertise as we move forward and tackle the
challenge of charting a course for Kadima that will
build upon and continue the success of this wonderful
and important organization.
