Editor's Note: Thank you to all our readers who took the time and sub-
mitted essays describing why Mom (or, in most cases, a wife) deserved some
pampering. We are proud to present the winning author's essay, which was
selected for its earnestly described gratitude and for the writer's age: Hannah Finn,
a Farmington Hills fifth-grader, who is 101/2 years old.
We also congratulate the subject, Erika Finn, on her good fortune of receiving
some sweet winnings and, more importantly, for having a daughter who took the
time to tell us why her mom deserved to win.
Red Thread would like to thank advertisers Fiaz Salon, Krysiyna's European
Spa and Hersh's for donating their services and merchandise. Ms. Finn's mother
will receive a cut, color and style, and a manicure by Fiaz Almaki, owner of Fiaz
Salon in West Bloomfield. She will also get some serious pampering, including
a collagen facial and a Swedish massage, courtesy of Krystyna's European Spa
in Beverly Hills. And no pampering would be complete without a new outfit:
Hersh's, located on the Boardwalk in West Bloomfield, has given Mrs. Finn a
gift certificate of $300 to spend at the store.
We have published a portion of the winning essay below:

II mothers are special, but I believe mine is the most deserving of
this special day. For all she does for me, I hope to get this reward
for her. Mom, you do so much ...
"For one day, I will cook my own food, making sandwiches and
waffles. I will clean my room, and Dad will do the driving. You de-
serve a chore-free day to relax, even if it's for one day ...
"You and Dad work so much for me to enjoy all of my activities
... I want you to have one day that you don't have to worry about
spending money on yourself. If I had my own money, I would
give it all to you and Dad.
I hope my dream of winning a day of pampering comes
true for you. I love you so much, Mom, and this is my only
way of trying to give something special back to you. You
are the best!" R7
