They thought about their time in BBYO, when they got their start as leaders, their introduction to social justice and tzedakah and just how much fun they had as BBYO teens. As they remembered people with whom they served on chapter and regional boards, attended conventions and made countless memories, they decided to host a reunion. As the planning committee led by Michal (Duer) Terebelo and Andrew Ceifetz began work on the event, they remembered how their chapters used to volunteer at JARC homes. The committee decided to donate half the proceeds from the event to BBYO and the other half to JARC. "I remember volunteering at a JARC event and playing basketball with the men at the Berlin home said Lowell Weiss of Weiss Wealth Management, an event sponsor. "It was great to see old friends and support two organiza- tions that are dear to me." On May 7, dozens of Michigan Region BBYO alumni gathered at Via Nove in Ferndale for a night of catching up with friends and sharing BBYO memories, all while help- ing two great organizations. Through corporate and indi- vidual sponsorships, along with ticket sales, the alumni donated more than $1,000 to both BBYO and JARC. "JARC was thrilled to be the beneficiary of the BBYO Reunion:' said Rick Loewenstein, JARC CEO. "It was a great opportunity for the alumni to rekindle longstand- ing relationships with each other as well as with JARC. Many of the alumni have known JARC throughout their lives, and we continue to find new ways of reaching out to young people in Metro Detroit:' "I am proud that our young adult alumni are committed to the values of social justice and tikkun olam that BBYO instilled in them decades ago',' said Eric Adelman, BBYO regional director. "Our alumni understand the importance of community, as do today's BBYOers, who have raised well over $5,000 for various local charities this year."
