Other quality-of-life concerns also
have come up. Morrison, who just
returned from seven months travel-
ing around Europe, couch surfing and
doing organic farming, says she has
no fears about crime; but she worries
about the streets not being plowed.
"My parents just told me to be care-
fill; they trust me , ) ' she said. "I hope to
make a lot of new friends and bring a

Any existing issues do not seem to
be stopping the Moishe House residents
from moving forward. They're taking
the lead, moving back to the 'D' and
hoping other young Jews will follow.
"I believe in Detroit',' Morrison
wrote in her essay. "Despite our drastic
decline in population, despite a bank-
rupt industry and despite an air of
emptiness evident in the abandoned
businesses and homes, I believe in a
youth-driven comeback."
