On one hand, he says that Israel cannot negotiate with a terror orga- nization, Hamas, and on the other he urges Israel to do so. On one hand, he says that it is up to the Palestinians and Israelis to make peace and the USA will not impose it; on the other, he suggests the end results of such negotiations. His stand vis-a-vis the 1967 lines of separation with "land swaps" is confus- ing. What does he really mean? The timing of the speech is puzzling. If he wanted to address the masses of "liberated" Arabs, he should have left the Palestine-Israel conflict out of the formula or made it a minor issue which, in the context of what is hap- pening in the Arab world, it is. Past dictatorships in the Arab world used Israel as a scapegoat, the cause of all evil. President Obama again gave the new tyrants the old weapon of hate for Israel and the Jews, and he threw a grenade into the peace process. EU Aiding The Terrorists The Palestinian Authority has joined forces with the Hamas terror gang in their latest scheme to wipe Israel off the map. Israel's response to this exis- tential threat has been to withhold tax revenue which they collect for the PA. And what was the European Union's response? Instead of condemning the PA for uniting with the genocidal forces of Hamas, their response was to send even more money to the PA ("EU Covers PA Tax Money:' May 12, page 5). The EU already was giving more money to the Arab/ Moslems occupy- ing land in and around Israel than to all of Africa. These same EU politi- cians who are funding terrorism are threatening Israel with supporting the Arab/Moslem campaign to declare sov- ereignty over Judea, Samaria and parts of Jerusalem. This act of aggression will certainly end in another deadly war in the Middle East. Hitler seems to have won. Europe is under a central government that's working hard to finish off the Jews. Our sale was created by Roz Blanck and Jodi Goodman and is cur- rently chaired by Janet Berman, Susi Schoenberger and Karen Simmons. It takes a village to run an event of this magnitude. It takes eight months of preparation, 600-700 volunteers and over 100,000 donated items to achieve success. Our thanks to all who worked in any capacity to help us become the important annual community event that we have become. Without books there is no learning; without the funds from Bookstock sales, many literacy programs in our area would be falter- ing. Now, more than ever, when illiteracy in Detroit is at an alarming rate, get- ting books into people's hands and ensuring literacy and educational pro- grams are essential. Your Financial Problems Janet Berman Farmington Hills Walk For Israel A Huge Success The Walk for Israel was a success despite the rain and wind on Sunday, May 15th ("Silver Lining," May 19, page 14). We, members of the Walk for Israel team, applaud and thank chairman Andre Douville for his lead- ership, drive and love for Israel that made the Walk a success. Additionally, we thank the clergy and board of Temple Shir Shalom for their generous support by providing the use of the temple facilities and staff for the Walk. It is a wonderful, thor- ough piece. Contributing writer Don Cohen did a fabulous job on it and I really enjoyed talking with him about EMU. It may have been a while in coming, but I'm really proud of our new Jewish Studies Program and I think Marty Shichtman will do a terrific job in guiding it through its infancy. Douglas Miller Susan Martin Franklin President, Eastern Michigan University Bookstock Thanks, And A Mistake Our thanks to the Jewish News for its coverage and continued support of Bookstock. I must, however, point out an error in last week's story ( "Let There Be Books:' May 19, page 16). Ask Financial Crisis Attorney Ken Gross about... Correction • Photographs accompanying the Teen2Teen story about the spring J-Serve day ("Helping Others:' May 19, page TT2, ) were taken by Colton Graub. im Is it smart to Short Sale a home? Face facts - property values are still on the decline and a return to the days of equity growth are long gone. If you're underwater and you don't want to live in that house for ever - now is the time to short sale the home. Until 12/31/12, the cancellation of debt on a principal residence is not taxed - after that it is. You are best served using an independent attorney to negotiate the release from the debt. Let the broker find the buyer - but the release is the only reason to sell. In a short sale - you need someone who says, "No release, no sale." Brokers earn their living from the sale. We earn it by getting the release. THAV GROSS has been solving its client's business, tax and financial problems for 30 years.
