These gaps may close on their own, and is not a sign the expander has stopped working. The teeth have elastic fibers between them and sometimes move the teeth back together at different rates. This is why gaps may not form on some kids. Most expanders need to be activated once a day. This may be tricky at first but soon you will get the hang of it. The expander is left in the mouth for a while after the last activation for stabilization. Expanders may be fixed or removable.
