Bill Ford, Broners Headline JVS Event T wo family businesses with historic ties — Ford Motor Co. and Broner Glove and Safety — will be represented at the 14th annual JVS Strictly Business Networking and Awards Luncheon. Ford Executive Chairman Bill Ford is honorary chair and keynote speaker on Tuesday, June 7, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Dearborn. Bob Broner and Stephanie Broner Miller will accept JVS' Business Leadership Award for exemplary employ- ment practices. "It's quite impres- sive to know that Harry Broner and his uncle, Philip Demb, opened a retail stand in Highland Park opposite the Ford Bob Broner assembly plant in 1910, and Ford work- ers bought retail items from that stand',' said Barbara Nurenberg, JVS pres- ident and CEO. Barney, Harry's son, joined his father Stephanie in the creation Broner Miller of Broner Glove Company, a distribu- tor of work gloves. When union con- tracts required that the plant provide safety products, factories became the new outlet for Broner merchandise. With continued expansion, the Broners had successive moves to Ferndale, Troy and now Auburn Hills, headquarters for two divisions. Just like at Ford, management respon- sibilities moved through younger generations. David Broner, who recently received the hat industry's Ben Rosenthal Lifetime Achievement Award, stepped aside from a leadership role in the company in March of 2010. Throughout the Broner growth, the family encouraged employees to advance their education and supported them with financial allotments, the basis for the JVS award. Also part of the luncheon program will be the presentation of JVS honor- ary chair Employee of the Year Awards. Four individuals will be recognized for overcoming difficult personal obstacles to seek jobs and succeed in following through with their assignments. Strictly Business starts at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 7, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Dearborn.
