Huntington Woods gives a grateful

t's a brutal winter and the furnace goes out in
a home in Southfield. There's no working toilet
in a Detroit home with an elderly resident. The
roof is leaking in West Bloomfield and the family
inside is in danger. A Huntington Woods woman
with multiple sclerosis may have to move to a nurs-
ing home because she cannot maneuver her wheel-
chair in her small bathroom.
These moving stories are encountered every day
by the staff of Jewish Family Service (JFS), a non-
sectarian social service organization that provides
out-patient mental health counseling and commu-
nity support services to more than 12,000 people
each year.
JFS' client base, including Jewish and non-Jewish
families throughout Southeastern Michigan, has
grown dramatically since 2007, and the agency
does not have nearly enough funding to help all the
people in need.
A solution? Match up people in desperate need of
home repairs with professional builders, remodelers
and suppliers. Despite being financially strapped,
the families gain a chance to live in safety and
comfort in their homes. And though enduring a
crippling economic downturn in their businesses,
the professionals can offer much needed support by
donating their expertise and the materials they may
have on hand.

Rather, Obama offered mostly reassurances and clarifications.
He also issued a blunt warning that doing nothing undermines
U.S. efforts to fend off Israel's diplomatic isolation and
