Marilyn was born Hechtman on Jan. 24, 1947, to Lippman and Elaine (Sloman) Lumberg in Detroit. She earned a bachelor's degree in teach- ing from University of Michigan and later earned her associate's degree as a pharmacy tech from Oakland Community College. In 1973, Marilyn married Yale Hechtman. They had a daughter, Jodi, and son, Joshua. In the sum- mer of 1986, the family moved to Williamsburg. Yale and Marilyn worked together for several years at their pharmacy. Marilyn loved to spend time out- doors. She enjoyed gardening, camp- ing, hiking, playing tennis, skiing, fishing, bird watching and frequenting arts and craft shows. Marilyn and Yale both loved to watch and feed the birds at their home, which made their visits to the bird migration at Whitefish Point enjoyable. Above all, Marilyn loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandson with whom she enjoyed going on nature hikes and to the library. Marilyn was very active in the Jewish community. She was a member of Temple Beth El and Congregation Ahavat Shalom. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents and her father-in-law, Louis Hechtman. Marilyn is survived by her hus- band of 38 years, Joel Yale Hechtman; daughter, Jodi Hechtman (Baris Arakelian) of Belleville; son, Joshua (Amanda) Hechtman of Traverse City; grandson, Jakob Hechtman; brother, Edward (Sherri) Lumberg of West Bloomfield; and mother-in-law, Mollye Hechtman of Southfield.
