neer, attorney and national security
management consultant, Wilbert
Simkovitz has dedicated his life to
this country, Israel and the Detroit
Jewish community.
Bruce Thal: Being Jewish for
Bruce Thal is about living up to high
moral standards and giving back to
the community — acts he has exhib-
ited throughout his lifetime.
Nominations were scored on several
categories including dedication to a
particular belief or cause, current
accomplishments or involvement in
the community, affiliations/member-
ships/awards and community impact.

Event Aids Seniors
The luncheon is the largest annual
fundraising event held on behalf of
Jewish Senior Life.
Proceeds benefit the Quality of Life
Fund, which provides financial sup-
port for enriched programming, food
subsidy, medical needs, special trans-
portation, the Butzel Camp experi-
ence and more.
Over the past 18 years, 144 older
adults have been honored.
This year's event is at 11 a.m.
Sunday, May 15, at Congregation
Shaarey Zedek in Southfield.
Reservations are required for the
kosher brunch from Quality Kosher
Catering. Cost: $80, adults; $40 chil-
dren 12 and younger.

Head Of School
Akiva Hebrew Day School in
Southfield has finalized the hiring of
Rabbi Tzvi Klugerman as new head
of school for next school year.
Klugerman
received his rab-
binic ordination
and a B.A. in
Jewish studies
from Yeshiva
University, his
M.A. in educa-
tion from George
Rabbi
Washington
Klugerman
University and is
completing his Ph.D. in Jewish
education from Gratz College.
His areas of expertise include both
Jewish history and mathematics.
