DESIGNS IN DECORATOR WOOD & LAMINATES, LTD.
The photo Cherished Liberties by Mara Stein is entered in the Congressional
Art Competition.
It Doesn't
Have To Cost
A fortune...
Only Look
Like it!
M
ara Stein, 16, a junior at
Bloomfield Hills Andover
High School, is one of five
finalists in the annual Congressional
Art Competition featuring art by
high school students and sponsored
by members of the U.S. House of
Representatives.
Stein's dramatic black and white
photograph taken at the Newseum in
Washington, D.C., is among those from
Michigan's 9th District, represented by
Congressman Gary Peters (D-Oakland
County). Voting continues through
May 8 at the website Lusa.govillgHMs.
The winning art will be displayed in
the U.S. Capitol for one year.
Stein's photograph is titled
Complete kitchen and
bathroom remodeling
as well as furniture
design and installations
including granite, wood
and other materials.
Cherished Liberties.
"The patriotic feeling inspired
me to take this photo," she said in a
statement accompanying her work. I
enjoyed the bold etched words with
the combination of lines from the inte-
rior architecture as well as the individ-
ual walking acress. These freedoms of
the 1st Amendment I feel are precious
freedoms that many American value.
"When I took this photo I did not
intend it to be for my photography
class and, at that point, I did not
know about the Congressional Art
Competition either. My photography
teacher encouraged me to submit the
photo, and I am very appreciative she
did." II
