And Moses said "Go forth, into the fields and hills,
and when you come upon a dark, cavernous struc-
ture, enter with your tribe mates and sit and behold
the moving images of history, of fiction, and laugh
and cry and think, and eat corn that has been heated
in oil until it expands and dried grapes that have been
covered with chocolate, and all will be good."

So maybe this is stretching it a bit. But movies could have made things
very different back then.

Our 13th annual film festival showcases more than 40 films from around
the world. We have spent the last eight months screening potential
submissions and have, once again, narrowed it down to some incredibly
entertaining and thought-provoking films. We know you will agree!

Of course, the biggest news is that we have a new, permanent home for
the festival: the Berman Center for the Performing Arts. This state-of-
the-art theater will be a tremendous addition to an already amazing fes-
tival and will allow us to grow and expand with new events and features.
Student films produced locally will be featured in a program sponsored
by Detroit Public Television, which will help attract a new audience base
and generate future filmmaking in and for our community.

So go forth, and bring a friend or two, and help build a Jewish Detroit
that is known throughout!

Dear Friends,

Mazel tov! The 2010 Lenore Marwil Jewish Film
Festival had quite a year, but just look what we've
got planned for 2011! It's our bar mitzvah year - our
13th year - and we want to celebrate the best way we
know how... with an over-the-top Patron Event, plenty of American and
Michigan premieres, features and documentaries and films from around
the world. We want to make you think, get up and dance and help you un-
derstand the complex, beautiful world in which we live, which is why we
present films for mind, body and soul. We wanted to make it as easy as
possible for you choose exactly what you're looking for, so we've created
icons to help. Look for these next to many of our films that are Michigan
premieres, bar mitzvah themed, true stories, women's interest, Holocaust
and family friendly.

We are especially excited to show films in the brand-new Berman Center
for the Performing Arts, a beautiful state-of-the-art, digital theater on
our campus in West Bloomfield. What better way to watch a film than in
a gorgeous theater designed to provide a magical experience no matter
what the program. We also are bringing filmmakers and guest speakers
to round out the festival. Each provides a unique perspective and allows
us to explore the filmmaking process.
