She was a lifelong Detroiter, attending Winship Jr. High and Portner Henry Ford High School, where she graduated magna cum laude in 1967. She also graduated from Temple Israel High School in 1967. Her early years were shaped by attending summer camp in Camp Nahelu in Ortonville. She went on to the University of Michigan, where she graduated with honors with a B.S. in physical therapy in 1971. Mrs. Portner was a physical therapist at the Detroit Rehabilitation Institute and Mount Carmel and Sinai hospitals of Detroit. She was an adjunct instructor at Wayne State University and was the clini- cal coordinator for the placement of physical therapists from the program throughout the state of Michigan. She was also a long-time member of the Admissions Committee for the College of Physical Therapy at Wayne State University. Mrs. Portner is survived by her husband of 39 12 years, Arnold Portner; son, Jason Portner; sister, Gail Nemer; mother-in-law, Ethel Portner; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dr. Leonard and Laurel Portner, Dr. Bernard and Rachel Portner; nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and a world of friends. She was the devoted daughter of the late Daniel and the late Mary Steffin; the loving daughter-in-law of the late Samuel Portner. Interment at Clover Hill Park Cemetery.
