wo teams from Akiva Hebrew
Day School in Southfield
were winners in the recent
Southfield Public Library Battle of
the Books contest. Teams read books
on a list provided by the library, then
competed against other schools at the
contest by answering questions about
the books.
Akiva's Word Girls won first place in
the fourth-grade contest. The Leader

Readers, made up of Akiva's sixth-
graders and Ofir Gal from Yeshiva Beth
Yehudah, earned second place in the
middle school division. Parents Renee
Phillips of West Bloomfield and Susan
Kresch of Oak Park managed the two
