A group from the modern Orthodox Young Israel of Southfield (YIS) presented more employment opportunities than the dozens of oth- ers who attended the event. And they are looking to the com- munity to help reach that goal again this year. "We are looking for people to send us information about positions open in our area so we can include them in our packet',' said Monica Fischman of Southfield. The annual event is designed for representatives from cities nation- wide to share information on their hometowns with metropolitan New York-area families looking to make a move to a less-stressful community. Southfield is one 38 communities that will be part of the March 27 fair hosted by Orthodox Union in New York. "The goal of the event is to show off what we have to offer, not just at YIS but all of southeastern Michigan:' said Fischman. "Some of the factors that people consider are what sort of jobs we have to offer. If we supply a list in advance, they will also post it to their free OU Job Board site." YIS Rabbi Yechiel Morris will attend the fair with synagogue mem- bers Daniel Greenbaum and Rachel Loterstein. Since the inception of an annual YIS Shabbaton to showcase the area four years ago, the congregation has welcomed 22 new families with eight others currently expressing interest. Those who attend the Shabbaton receive information on schools, housing, employment assistance and networking. Interest-free loans for up to $7,200 are available to those who make the move. Information on area employment opportunities may be e-mailed to Fischman at monicafischman@ gmail.com by Thursday, March 24. [
