Museum Party from page C33
at the Historic Detroit Opera House
Tina Abohasira plans parties at Shalom Street.
So she decided to have a small group of Aryeh's friends — 40 of them — for a party
at Shalom Street.
She loved it.
"Everything was easy, well-done and beautiful," she says. The day included organized
games, food, goody bags and free play. Plus, children made a stained glass-inspired
card based on the Chagall exhibit then at Shalom Street.
Abohasira wants to make each exhibit an inspiration for a party project. But don't
look for the typical Purim grogger or Passover matzah cover. Abohasira wants cool
stuff, "not just another run-of-the-mill art project!'
Shalom Street's next exhibit will be the ancient city of Shushan, just in time for
Purim. Janet Maiseloff, a Detroit native who holds a degree in theater design from the
Royal Academy for Dramatic Arts, is the designer. Maiseloff is creating an entire city
where children can walk down the streets of long ago, sit on "King Ahasuerus' Throne,"
experience a delicious meal in the Feast Room, shop at the Shushan Marketplace,
make an instrument or hear stories inside a glorious silk tent.
Parties at Shalom Street can be custom-designed, with packages that can include
cake, drinks, a craft project, a scavenger hunt, decorations, plates and napkins, pizza,
goody bags, clean-up and, best of all, the services of Tina Abohasira, who is always
enthusiastic and patient.
All food served at Shalom Street is kosher, with pizza from Jerusalem Pizza and
cake from Milk and Honey.
Party reservations should be made at least one month in advance, and 40 is the
maximum number of children for any event. ❑
