I March 2011 machines, mirrors, fabric, a work area and a conference room. "At first, I designed just veils," Taub said. "Almost four years ago, I designed and made a wedding veil for my sister Melissa [Taub-McNabb of Ann Arbor]. I was always interested in fashion, but this was my first touch of work in something bridal." In January 2010, she expanded her veil business to include bridal gowns. Taub creates custom pieces and a ready-made collection, including veils, prom and evening dresses, and bridal, bridesmaid and mother-of-the-bride gowns. Her designs are sketched and sewn, first in muslin from her hand-made patterns, and then in fabric. Custom gowns may take two-four months, from first meeting to final fitting. Prices from Taub's online collections range from $2,000 - $4,000 for wedding gowns and from $40 $800 for veils. Taub sells to customers from as far away as Australia on line (www.arieltaub.com) and on Facebook. Her Nuage by Ariel Jennifer Taub veil line is exclusively at Le Salon in Royal Oak. "Sample wedding gowns that are not custom made are all 100 percent silk because of the texture and breathability," she said. "But they can each be made from any other fabric to reduce the cost. I try to offer gowns for any budget." She works with very little overhead and no employee. "My inspiration for what I design often comes from fabrics I find," Taub said. "Sometimes I even start with just a trim. Bridal gown designs are endless. "My style is basically traditionally elegant — often with beads or lace — with a glimpse of the past, but reinterpreted. The gowns have a modern twist, but not so - DISH C 1 8 Silk organza and satin modern ball gown with a Swarovski silver rhinestone trim and three-dimensional floral skirt and bolero.
