etroit was well represented at TribeFest in Las Vegas March 6-8. The
33-strong delegation was easy to pick out from the crowd of 1,300,
starting with the opening event where they wore black T-shirts with the
classic Detroit "D" on the front and "Imported from Detroit" on the back.
For three days, they took part in a series of cultural, social and professional
events geared at connecting them with their Jewish interests.
Detroiters took the stage at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino venue
several times as well. Rachel Wright of Birmingham presented at a TribeFest
Birthright Israel event; Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit CEO Scott
Kaufman spoke on being a Jewish professional in the non-profit sector; and
Nikki Fayne of Birmingham kept everyone limber with a morning yoga session.
Robb Lippitt of Bloomfield Hills served as conference co-chair.
The event is the first of its kind for the Jewish Federations of North America,
which in the past has run young leadership conferences in Washington, D.C.
"We wanted people to come to try it out and see what Jewish life is really all
