teve Slobin's football journey
is taking him from a high
school program that has won
13 state championships to a college
team that has yet to play a game.
The 5-foot-11,
175-pound tailback
from Farmington
Hills Harrison has
signed with Siena
Heights University
in Adrian, an NAIA
school that will field
its
first football
Steve Slobin
team this fall and
play its home games
on a new artificial
turf on-campus stadium.
Slobin chose Siena Heights for
the campus, the sports management
academic program that gives the
3.3 grade point average student an
opportunity to pursue his dream of
becoming a general manager of a
professional team, and the good vibes
he felt from the football coaches.
"The coaches took the time to
learn what I'm about and what I'm
made of:' he said. "I also fit in with
their offensive system. They need a
tailback who makes quick cuts and
gets up the field quickly."
Jim Lyall is Siena Heights'
coach. Offensive coordinator Jeff
Hancock said, "We're not only looking
for good athletes and students, but
also guys who have high character,
integrity and a willingness to go
above and beyond ... Steve has all
these qualities, he played for a leg-
endary coach [John Herrington] at
Harrison, and he won a state cham-
pionship."
Slobin was a two-year starter at
Harrison, running for nearly 1,000
yards and 11 touchdowns as a junior
and senior. He suffered a torn ACL
in his right knee during Harrison's
playoff opener against Birmingham
Brother Rice last fall, but expects to
be recovered in about two months.

Madame President
Dana Glinski is the new president of
the Jewish Women International Mid-
America Bowling Association.
The 44-year-old Farmington Hills

resident was installed for the 2011-
2012 term last month during the
awards banquet for the 63rd annual
JWI Mid-America tournament in
Minneapolis.
Glinski served as
secretary, treasurer
and vice president.
She's a past presi-
dent of the JWI
Bowling Association
of Metropolitan
Detroit who has
Dana Glinski
been bowling in the
local association for
26 years.
"I've gotten involved so I can meet
people, learn about the JWI organiza-
tion and work on tournaments:' said
Glinski, a warranty administrator for
a car dealership.
Four Detroit bowlers won awards at
the Minneapolis tournament. In the
A Division (134 average and above),
Shelley Gershune had the high gross
series (671), Caron Goldfine had the
second-highest gross game (244), and
Sue Lawrence had the second-highest
all-events net score (1004).
Carolyn Feldman had the top
net series (465) in the B Division
(133 average and lower). Her series
included a 210, her first 200 game.
Gross scores include handicap.

12 Is Unlucky
What's more difficult to do, shoot a
hole-in-one or bowl a 300 game?
Bowlers say it's a 300 because a
dozen perfect shots are needed.
Bryan Levine has rolled a 300
game, and he's also had a pair of 299s
and a 298. The latter was part of a
298-204-236/738 series last month
in the Brotherhood-Eddie Jacobson
B'nai B'rith League.
Levine left two pins standing on
his 12th and final ball of the first
game.
"I went too fast and the shot hit
high in the pocket:' the 53-year-old
West Bloomfield resident said. "I
was so disappointed. I knew what I
needed to do."
Despite the near-miss, it was an
above-average night on the lanes for
the 202 average bowler. I
