Telling It Like It Is

Matt Prentice Restaurant Group's CEO clears up muddle.

p

OTPOURRI
To clarify a very large confu-
sion, there still is a Matt Prentice
Restaurant Group.
It was erroneously thought by some
that the name had been changed to
Trowbridge Restaurant group ... However,
the Trowbridge name is strictly for opera-
tional purposes, not an alteration in the
local chain's public identity.
"The filing was strictly personal and has
no impact on MPRG," writes Matt. "I will
continue to operate and be the face of the
company as its CEO.
"I have enjoyed
the support of your
readership since
1980 and hope to
serve them for a
long time to come.

future even though

have been tough for me," writes Matt
"The Michigan economy is finally turn-
ing around and thanks to our recent re-
organization, each of the restaurants and
fine catering operations are again experi-
encing growth:'
READER MINI REVIEW ..."My grand-
parents, Eli and Sandy Kurtz, treated me to
a visit of one of the finest Italian culinary
restaurants in Metropolitan Detroit, Cafe
Cortina [10 Mile Road, Farmington Hills].
If I could use one phrase to describe the
entire experience it would be 'many steps
further' because of furthering my expecta-
tions and hopes so far ahead.
"The service and food were unbeliev-
able. We were seated in minutes and,

k

after arriving at the table, my
chair was pulled out for me
and a napkin laid neatly on
my lap. We had hot and fresh
homemade rolls and our party
ordered a first course of salads.
I usually do not enjoy vinegar
dressing but this one, although
somewhat sweet, still had an
enjoyable edge.
"Next was a pasta course
of rigatoni in a hearty tomato
sauce. It was tasty and fresh
with large juicy chunks of tomato and
paired with shavings of an excellent aged
Parmesan cheese.
As the main course, I ordered shrimp
in an angel hair-like pasta with a layer of
tomato sauce and chunks of almost-dried
tomatoes. Many of the sauces are avail-
able in Cafe Cortina's online market. My
grandparents had the sea bass, and watch-
ing the server debone the fish was utterly
captivating.
"For dessert I had a sweet pastry
with alternating layers of hard, flaky
and delectable cake with a sweet, tangy
lemon sauce. Accompanying my dessert,
I enjoyed a cappuccino and instead of the
everyday packet of sugar, it was brought in
syrup form in a miniature glass tumbler.
"On a tour given me, I viewed the garden
where Cafe Cortina grows its herbs and
vegetables. It was a most delightful eve-
ning, indeed:' ... Emma Kellman, age 12.
THEY'RE BIG GUYS and big eaters,
but son Scott and Howard Ball might
have met their dining match recently at
Carnegie Deli in Las Vegas' Mirage Hotel ...
After seeing mention of the huge corned
beef and pastrami sandwich with coleslaw
and Russian dressing, they told the waiter
about wanting to split his suggestion
that they have the Woody Allen for $20
