FRED LAX, 85, of West Bloomfield, died
Feb. 4, 2011.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Lax;
son and daughter-in-law, Michael and
Musette Lax of Southfield; daughters and
sons-in-law, Maureen and Bruce Levine of
Farmington Hills, Nancy Lax and David
Browning of Luxenburg, Mass.; grand-
children, Molly, Emily, Melissa and Phillip,
Brian and Amy, Michael, Ryan and Grant;
great-grandchildren, Nathan, Mia.
Contributions may be made to Homes
for our troops, 6 Main Street, Taunton,
MA 02780. Services and interment were
held in Israel. Arrangements by Hebrew
Memorial Chapel.

JEANETTE A. (GOTTE) LEWIS, 43,
of South Lyon, Mich., died Feb. 1, 2011, fol-
lowing an extended illness.
She was born March 30, 1967, in Howell,

the daughter of Juna and Frederick Gotte.
On Nov. 24, 2004, in Novi, she married her
loving husband, Michael Lewis. Mrs. Lewis
was employed as the director of sales and
marketing for the family business.
She is survived by her devoted husband,
Michael; daughter, Zira; dogs, Bojo and
LeeLu; mother, Juna Gotte of Pinckney;
brothers, Ronald Gotte of Gregory and
Brian Gotte of New York.
She was the daughter of the late
Frederick Gotte.
A farewell was held Feb. 5, at Borek
Jennings Funeral Home, Hamburg Chapel.
Contributions may be made to an educa-
tion fund for Jeanette's daughter Zira.

BERNICE LITVIN, 87, of Farmington
Hills, died Feb. 2, 2011.
She was born in Chicago. After graduat-
ing high school, she went into the work
force and ended up working full time for
the Federal Works Agency in the Opera
House in downtown Chicago with a
starting salary of $1,440 a year. She was
assigned to the secretarial pool; before
long, she was moved to be secretary to the

boss, Mr. Ashton, with the ability to take
down board meetings in shorthand.
It was while taking the 8:07 a.m. train
to work, she met a farm boy going to avia-
tion school on 12th and Michigan. The
relationship began and continued after
he enlisted in the Air Force. They married
September 1943 in Denver, Colo. He came
home in December 1945 and they moved
to Mount Clemens, where Manny joined
the family lumber/building business.
Then came the three children, Jeanne,
Brad and Bruce. In 1964, Bernice joined
the work force thru Kelly Services and
found a steady job with Walter Kaufman
Contracting. In 1980, again while she was
working for Kelly Services, her boss at ITT
bought out her contract and she worked
10 years and retired in September 1990.
ITT was so impressed with her ability,
they made a first-time ever in the compa-
ny retirement lunch for her. Three months
later, her boss retired because he could not
find someone to replace Bernice (these
were his words).
Mrs. Litvin is survived by her beloved
husband, Manny Litvin; sons and daugh-
ter-in-law, Brad and Hillary Randolph and
Bruce Litvin; daughter and son-in-law,
Jeanne and Mel Teitelbaum; a collection of

grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
Interment at Beth Tephilath Moses
Cemetery in Mount Clemens. Contributions
may be made to the Jewish National Fund.
Arrangements by Dorfman Chapel.

JOHN "UNCLE JAKE" MELLIN, 75,
of Royal Oak, died Feb. 5, 2011.
He was an. Army veteran wounded in
combat during the Korean Conflict; he had
been disabled ever since.
Mr. Mellin is survived by his sister
and brother-in-law, Shirley and Harold
LaBell of Oak Park; brother, Sam Mellin
of Oxford. He is also survived by Cecille
LaBell, Ileene LaBell, Melissa LaBell, Paul
LaBell, Susan Levine, Tom Hornfield,
Andrea McCowan and many other loving
family members and friends.
He was the dear brother of the late Mary
Hoff.

Interment at Hebrew Memorial Park.
